Actual Churchill Claims Case Study

The Case of the Double-Dipping Deceiver

Mr. Claimant had been hurt on the job at the Ford factory in Detroit. While on extended work comp disability, he had relocated to Portland, OR to convalesce. As the months dragged on without any improvement in his condition, the insurance company retained our services to do surveillance on Mr. Claimant, to see if he still looked as if he was disabled.

Wondering if he was double-dipping wages, we decided the best course of action was to drive to the address where his checks were being mailed. We arrived at 6:30 AM and, trying to keep inconspicuous, we parked down the block, waiting to see if he might be going off to work in the morning. At 7:15 AM he emerged out the front door and walked without difficulty down the porch steps. Our video was recording…

Pausing at his car, Mr. Claimant looked with curiosity through the dawn light toward our car parked ½ block away. We hunkered down below the steering wheel wondering why he had noticed us and kept glancing in our direction.

Mr. Claimant got in his car and zoomed away. When we turned on our engine to follow, we realized why the guy had noticed us. We had forgotten to turn off our headlights when we parked! What a stupid mistake which 007 would never have made. Well, we zoomed ahead in pursuit of the claimant’s car.

We followed the car to a local grade school and saw Mr. Claimant walk into the building. After ten minutes, we went into the building and asked the office receptionist if they knew Mr. Claimant. “Oh, yes! He’s our custodian!” Our client, armed with surveillance video of his adroit descent of the stairs and documentation of his work for the school swiftly relegated Mr. Claimant back to the realm of “single dipping”.

When it comes to insurance investigations, Churchill Claims Services leaves no stone unturned!
